Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post about redoing old illustrations. I find myself feeling a bit divided: on the one hand, I like the opportunity to revisit an illustration and improve some of the things I don't think came out as best they could -- in the case of the illustration below, for instance, the containers. On the other hand, I sometimes find when I try to fix something I end up losing something else that came out right! Lesson of the day: stop being a perfectionist!
Well, it's very lovely! I do know what you mean by perfectionist...:) I think all artist suffer from it! :)
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice work!!!
ReplyDeleteoh what a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, Monica! Love the simplicity!
ReplyDeletePeaceful scene, I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour lesson of the day is a great one. My father is an amazing artist. Sadly, I think his perfectionism has taken over. He rarely completes a painting and hasn't painted for years now. My father's well intended criticism impacted my work and feelings of needing to be perfect too. This made art feel like a burden to me. Since I realised art is not meant to be perfect, I ceased being paralyzed from perfectionism and haven't looked back ;)
ReplyDeleteYour illustration is so cute! Sorry I did have that written in my comment above but somehow I managed to delete it ;P
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love this!

Lovely composition and paintstrokes.
ReplyDeleteOh, gorgeous! I could definitely see this in a little storybook.
ReplyDeleteLast week, I didn't have an old drawing that really, really bothered me. This week, I do. It's like an itch begging to be scratched. But I probably won't revisit it, just because I'm pretty darn lazy.
Lovely and so beautiful, I really love the cats tail, perfect work Monica! =)
ReplyDeletedarling moon and cat. Yes stop being a perfectionistic and just keep doing. (Now I need to post that up on MY mirror too! :)
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, do I ever know what you mean about the perfectionist thing. That said, it's hard to believe you do that, because your work always looks fresh and spontaneous. You're certainly doing something right!
ReplyDeleteLove this wee kitteh! It's just about as cute as it gets!!!

Very nice illo! Fits the topic perfect.
ReplyDeleteCute kitty!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right about redoing stuff. Even just retracing an drawing onto my watercolor paper causes some loss in the originals charm.

ReplyDeleteand yes, sometimes it's a torture being a perfectionist, i do understand... :)
Novamente adoro esta tua ilustração!
ReplyDeleteAs cores, a simplicidade da composição...! Humm...
A melhor maneira que descobri para lutar contra o prefeccionismo é: "concentrar em FAZER, fazer sem parar..., sem pensar como vai ficar".
Reminds me of Kevin Henkes "Kitten's First Full Moon" which won the Caldecott! I think you're deserving of one as well.
ReplyDeleteMonica,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this illustration! It's peaceful, sweet and I am overwhelmed by its lovely simplicity.
