"Oops, sorry... It's hard to find beehives in the early morning fog. Please go back to sleep now."
Well, this was a different piece in the sense that I added more of a background and struggled a bit with the "fog" part. I ended up using white goauche, but I'd be interested in hearing your suggestions. How would you do it? Thanks for visiting and for your comments!
"Oh, mil desculpas... é difícil encontrar colméias de manhã cedo quando tem neblina. Por favor, pode voltar a dormir."
Bem, este foi um trabalho diferente: acrescentei um fundo na ilustração e tive um pouco de dificuldade na criação da neblina. Acabei usando goauche, mas estou interessada em receber sugestões de como resolver este problema. Como você faria? Obrigada pela visita e pelos comentários!
So sweet!
ReplyDeletelovely illo! very cute and a nice idea. Liked the simple fog treatment too :)
ReplyDeleteI think your guache fog works great. Nice illustration Mônica.
ReplyDeleteThis is just precious! Love the embarrassed expression on the little bear and the startled one on Mr. Owl. I imagine watercolor is a difficult medium to create fog with, since you would have to plan ahead to keep things lighter or foggier. So I think the goauche solution turned out perfectly. You also artfully kept the colors muted so the whole thing reads just right. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I find your little characters incredibly engaging. I also love your lines (I've said that before). I think the gouache is effective; could you have been even more courageous and used just a bit more? I admire anyone who works with watercolour; not an easy ride.
ReplyDeletewow! this piece is fabulous!
ReplyDeletethe background is great and so is the fog, and the characters soo sweet and lovely! great work!
How beautiful. I think your fog looks a lot like the fog in our forests on many mornings. Your owl certainly looks surprised to be in the bright light. And what about those bees? There may be a mad dash away from that tree any minute. The whole illustration is just charming!
ReplyDeletePS...thanks for the Award!
oops, great expression on the owl, another good one!
ReplyDeleteThe bear is really cute! Funny hes using a flash light.
ReplyDeleteI think the fog over layed on the bottom section works nicely. Especically over the darker colors like the bear and tree. It reads well.
The only area I might suggest looking at would be the white around the limbs on the upper left, it sorta can read like an odd fog.
I love foggy mornings. There is something so cozy about waking up to fog. And I think that bear of yours is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I love everything about it, great story, adorable animals, and lovely atmosphere. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! I hate being woken up by flashlight, too. Not that it happens often. Your goauche fog is perfect! I like its transparency. Nice choice.
ReplyDeletegreat fog technique.
ReplyDeletethis is so cute!
from what i learn, watercolorists makes fog by dabbing their pigmented watercolor paper while it wet by tissues or sponges... but i still struggling to do it myself. not easy!
ReplyDeleteyou'll always tend to overdo everything..LOL. your work here is cute by the way, monica, as always. its like i see a different style from you. :)
oh and thanks for the award! im honored! will try to pass it on... :)
Oh Monica, this illo is so beautiful... Me gusta cuando ilustras otros personajes, además de perros ;)
ReplyDelete(^v^)
this is so beautiful - I really love it! The scene is painted so nicely - and I love the expressions on the bear and owl's faces - wonderful illustration!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous posters--your fog treatment looks wonderful! But like Connie said, maybe seeing how it looks with a wee bit more...Though I'd hate to see it change. It's a lovely, lovely piece, Monica!
ReplyDeleteLove the illustration!
ReplyDeleteI love it Monica. I think it is perfect just the way it is.
ReplyDeletethis is a wonderful piece.....truly
ReplyDeleteI've been given the chance to list those blogs which have been especially important to me and although you already have this award (several times and well deserved) I decided I did not want to miss including you! So check my site for the now familiar details and start stacking 'em up!
ReplyDeleteSuper scene, really nice idea. Your fog seems to be a great success, but it's the background here that I think is excellent and brings a really different quality to your work - that said what I've always loved about your work is your 'hint of a background' that always makes your pieces look finished.
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I love the expression on the owls face. The gouche definately comes across as a misty fog in the illustration and I think it goes nicely. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour fog works for me, beautiful work as always
ReplyDeletenice.. this makes me smile :)
ReplyDeleteI love this illo so much that i can't stop looking at it (if you had a blog visitors' recorder you may have seen my several visits today :P - pero no me puedo resistir...es una belleza!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the owl's expression, and the bear does look sorry and contrite. This is such a sweet illustration, and the fog looks very nice.
ReplyDelete~luci.
Wonderful illustration, the expressions are wonderful, and I love the story you included. Great job with the fog, and I love your lines.
ReplyDeleteA very big THANK YOU to everyone who's left a comment and/or suggestion. I truly, really appreciate it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I got lucky with this piece, things worked out even though sometimes I wasn't really sure what I was doing (those happy accidents so true of watercolors!) I thought of adding a bit more white gouache, but was afraid it might look too much like cotton and not so much like fog. Fear of overdoing, I guess.
Thanks again, everyone!
I love this! I love the beam of light especially. I struggled with my fog and my light beam. Gouache is a great idea and you executed it well. Nice work and a great original idea :)
ReplyDeleteLovely illo, their expressions are so nice
ReplyDeleteMonica -- as usual another masterpiece! I just tagged you... come over to take a peak. I wouldn't be surprised if you've gotten this award already. :)
ReplyDeleteI would do the fog exactly as you have done it. :)
ReplyDeleteExquisite illustration! I love it!
it's true, great expressions. Love the beam of light shooting straight into the owls eyes
ReplyDeleteI love the look of surprise on the owl. Your fog looks like fog. Very nice work with gouache. I thought it was watercolors at first, but I guess gouache can look like that too. Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteMarvelous! Lovely expressions!
ReplyDelete"Hey! What's up guy?" I think the owl is saying this to the bear, :D
This looks wonderful! I think that you used the right materials and the right amount...looks perfect the way it is! (Watercolor is SO tricky for me, but you make it look so simple! Love it!)
ReplyDeletelovely Monica! I think you captured the feeling of what fog is like when you are in the middle of it really well. nicely done!!
ReplyDeleteDear Monica
ReplyDeletethis illo it's one of the most beautiful one I've ever seen...you're fantastic!
Love
