Doodle | Rabisco

A little experiment this week: can I do one doodle a day and post it this week? I'm going to give it a try. Sounds manageable, so let's see if I can keep it up.

Illustration Friday | Pale

Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post about redoing old illustrations.  I find myself feeling a bit divided: on the one hand, I like the opportunity to revisit an illustration and improve some of the things I don't think came out as best they could -- in the case of the illustration below, for instance, the containers.  On the other hand, I sometimes find when I try to fix something I end up losing something else that came out right!  Lesson of the day: stop being a perfectionist!

Obrigada a todos que deixaram comentários no meu post anterior. Eu perguntava quanto a re-trabalhar ilustrações antigas, e eu me sinto dividida: por um lado gosto de ter a oportunidade de revistar uma ilustração e melhorar aspectos que não saíram tão bem como eu queria (no caso abaixo, por exemplo, os vasos), mas por outro lado, eu as vezes descubro que ao consertar algo eu acabo perdendo outras coisas que tinham saído certo! Lição do dia: deixar de ser uma perfeccionista! :-)

I did this some time ago, playing around with the same illustration but using different media (and different flowers). I haven't done that in a while, but it was fun and a good way of practicing.

Fiz este trabalho há algum tempo atrás, usando a mesma ilustração, mas com materials diferentes (e flores diferentes também). Faz tempo que não faço isso, mas foi divertido e uma boa maneira de praticar.

Cat sketch with ink and watercolor | Illustration Friday | Island

So, here it is, in color with just ink and watercolor. Not quite as loose as I had hoped for, but I think this is good for a quick, simple illustration. And I guess this is kind of my style, a little loose but not so much...

(I haven't been able to participate in Illustration Friday lately -- work and travel. But I did this small painting as an exercise, and Stacey gave me the idea of using it for this week's theme of IF. I was thinking quite literally in terms of "island", but she's right! What a great idea! This does work, doesn't it? This little one has found a little comfy island to take a nice nap.)

Então aqui está o desenho colorido, com naquim e aquarela. Não saiu tão solto como eu esperava, mas para uma ilustração rápida e simples acho que ficou bom. E acho também que este é o meu estilo, um pouco solto, mas não tanto...

(Não tem sido possivel participar do Illustration Friday ultimamente -- trabalho e viagem. Mas eu fiz essa pinturinha como exercicio e a Stacey me deu a ideia de usá-la para o tema desta semana. Eu estava pensando em "ilha" literalmente, mas ela tem razão! Que grande idéia! Funciona, não? Este gatinho encontrou uma ilhazinha confortável para tirar uma soneca.)

Cat sketch | Desenho de um gato

I've been trying to get a bit looser with my drawing... It works when I'm just sketching, without worrying about the end result. This relaxed cat, lying on a blanket, was on the window of the adoption center closer to where I live. I sketched him/her really fast and now I plan to get it done in ink mostly and just a bit color, very loosely... We'll see if I can get it right! :-)

Tenho tentado me soltar mais no meu desenho. Eu consigo quando estou só rabiscando, sem me preocupar com o resultado final. Este gato/a relaxando num cobertor estava na janela do centro de adoção de animais perto de onde moro. Desenhei ele/ela bem rápido e agora meu plano é refaze-lo com nanquim e só um pouco de cor, bem solto... Vamos ver se acerto! :-)

"Enough" Finished

Here's the finished painting for "Enough." This time no ink, only watercolor and pencil. Thanks to everyone who left a comment on the post below, when this illustration was still halfway done.  I'm not 100% pleased with it, I have to say, but it's part of the learning process after all.
My family is visiting me from Brazil (Yeeyy!) so I haven't been able to participate in IF this week, but I hope to come back soon.

Aqui está a pintura "Enough" terminada. Desta vez não usei nanquim, somente aquarela e lápis. Obrigada a todos que deixaram comentários no post abaixo, quando a ilustração ainda estava semi-pronta.  Tenho que admitir que não fiquei 100% satisfeita com o resultado, mas afinal faz parte do aprendizado.
Minha família está me visitando do Brasil (Oooobaaa!) então não tenho tido tempo de participar do IF nesta semana, mas espero voltar logo.

Illustration Friday | Enough

Well, my idea was to say one can never have enough books, but it seems I won't have enough time to finish this illustration on time. :-)
Anyway, I thought you might enjoy a look at the partially finished piece. I'm thinking of using just watercolor and pencil on this one, we'll see. I'll post the finished illustration once I get it done!

Bem, minha idéia era dizer que não é possível ter livros suficientes, mas parece que eu não vou ter tempo suficiente para terminar esta ilustração. :-)
Ainda assim, achei que gostariam de vê-la. Estou pensando em usar somente aquarela e lápis, vamos ver. Colocarei a ilustração final quando terminá-la!
